architectural services
FKDA are able to provide a range of architectural and interior
design services, from the preparation of planning applications, to the full design
and procurement of a building project.
With the ability to undertake projects in a number of different sectors, we strive
on the diversity of the projects we have undertaken and continue to be involved
with.
We can also carry out a variety of project sizes, from £50,000 to £15
million. These include house extensions, where a client may be looking for a more
demanding solution to finding additional light and space, feasibility studies
for complex mixed use developments, and complete new build projects where we can
assist in managing the construction.
For each project, irrespective of its size, we develop strong working relationships
with the client, other consultants and the building contractor. Through our professional
approach to the design and construction process, we endeavour to deliver designs
that are innovative yet functional, adding value to the ordinary.
Although there is often a demand from clients and their backers for a practice
to be of a large size, we believe there are many strengths a small practice can
provide, such as a real commitment to projects, the hands-on involvement of senior
staff throughout the project, and the ability to be flexible and adaptable.
As technology allows us to work, research, communicate and achieve far more, FKDA
ensures that it is at the forefront of the technologies available. Powerful multimedia
desktop computers are used to produce architectural drawings and presentations
(AutoCAD 2004), with full office applications linked to a broadband ADSL connection
for easy transmittal of information. A professional antivirus and backup system
is also utilised.
A simple yet effective quality system has been implemented for both the management
of the office and for each project, to ensure there is a continuous cycle of analysis,
planning, reviewing, controlling and checking.
FKDA encourage further research and understanding of design and construction;
more than the mandatory amount of Continuing Professional Development in accordance
with the RIBA. A library (hardcopy and digital) of technical and statutory information
is maintained and updated on a regular basis. The practice subscribes to information
services that provide updates either by email or via the Internet.
FKDA carries full Professional Indemnity Insurance with the RIBA Insurance Agency.
The practice is on the Select Tender List for the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral,
and we regularly work in collaboration with Manchester City Council's Corporate
Technical Services.
With our strong interest in all aspects of architecture and design, we have setup
and operate a website (www.nw-architecture.com) that is a useful resource for
anyone interested in architecture, the built environment and design.
Richard Frankland, the Director of the practice is an elected Council Member of
the Manchester Society of Architects (the MSA), the local branch of the RIBA.
